Trustee Opportunity at BackCare
17 Aug 2009
BackCare is looking for a trustee. Could it be you?
BackCare the charity for healthier backs is the only national charity dedicated to the nation’s leading cause of disability – namely, back pain.
30 million people a year suffer from back pain, that’s just under half the population. The impact that back pain has on society is immense and in pure monetary terms costs the country over £5 billion every year.
We have campaigned for over 40 years to improve access to information, research and individual support for back pain sufferers. We are gearing up to enter into the next phase of our development, which will see BackCare become a major Influence in the back pain arena.
As our diverse and dynamic organisation is expanding, we need experienced people who can complement our board of 11 trustees. This is an exciting opportunity to have a say in the way we run our charity and make a real difference to our work, while expanding your own skill-set. As well as influencing the strategic development, financial control and governance of BackCare, you will gain unparalleled insight into the way a major organisation works, and valuable experience of how decisions are made at Board level.
Trustees position is a non-remunerative role, but expenses are reimbursed if required. The expected time commitment is 4 trustee meetings a year (in London), plus participation on one of the three committees, who meet a maximum of 3 times a year.
Trustees of the Charity bring a wide range of skills to the organisation, and we would be particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals who have experience in the use of new media, social networking sites and electronic communication/marketing techniques and fundraising. We welcome applications from people from a wide range of different backgrounds, including people from ethnic minorities and under 30’s.
For an Application Pack with further details please call Helen Horton on 020 8977 5474 or email
