Talkback Spring 2009
The latest issue of Talkback, the magazine has articles on a range of diverse topics from unicycling to sex.
Susan Quilliam and Joy Haughton have written the article: “Sex and back pain,” a guide to approaching sexuality so that your back is not put under strain and your love life isn’t compromised. Research has constantly shown that a healthy sex life has significant emotional and physical benefits. There is practical advice for those with back problems as well as recognition that this is also an issue for the partner without pain. The authors conclude:” Be hopeful, back pain doesn’t have to be an end to your love life.” Susan is the author of the recently revised The Joy of Sex. Joy’s background is in psychology and osteopathy.
Gavin Burt, director of an osteopathic clinic in London, unicycles to work. He has written about how he became interested in unicycling and its potential health benefits. Balance and coordination are two of the cornerstones of back health.
The spring issue also includes the results of Talkback’s reader’s survey, one person’s experience of artificial disc replacement, an article about osteoporosis and an update from BackCare’s Research committee.
There is also an important update on recent changes to Incapacity Benefit and Income Support as well as the regular features, spotlight on a BackCare volunteer, and the questions and answers pages.
The quarterly magazine is available to those with membership of the charity or can be purchased.
