Occupational Health Guidelines for the Management of Low Back Pain at Work - Evidence Review
Professors Kim Burton from Huddersfield and Gordon Waddell from Glasgow.
This was an important piece of work that underpinned the Occupational Health Guidelines published in March 2000, and featured extensively in the summer 2000 issue of Talkback.
The conclusion of the abstract was that the review consolidated the emerging focus on active management of low back pain at work, and indicated that approaches addressing obstacles to recovery will provide greater benefits than attempts at primary prevention. The review has resulted in what the award-winners believe are the first truly evidence-linked occupational health guidelines for back pain in the world.
