Free online back pain training

BackCare, in partnership with BMJ learning, has developed an online training module for primary care professionals who treat people with back pain.

The online training course consists of a series of interactive modules that guide the learner through situations that clinicians will recognize. It deals with diagnosing specific back conditions and provides tips on how to help patients in their recovery.

The module is aimed at GPs, nurses, physiotherapists and other professionals in primary care and whilst the focus is on acute back pain, many tips can also be used when a patient with more persistent back pain presents.

One out of every ten GP consultations is for back pain, which signifies the need for effective and efficient mangement of this condition. Dr Dries Hettinga, head of research and policy at BackCare, said: ‘There is so much happening in the world of back pain research that it can be difficult for doctors and nurses to stay up to date and apply the latest evidence in their clinic. This is why BackCare teamed up with BMJ Learning and developed this course.’

The course is freely available on the BMJ Learning website, although users will have to register first. If you are already a regsitered BMJ Learning user, you can go to the 'Acute back pain' module directly by clicking here.
