BackCare Awareness Week is an annual event that gives BackCare and our partners the opportunity to promote awareness of back pain and the issues surrounding it, including prevention and treatment.

Our theme this year is

Most people ‘know’ how to pick up a box and we can all recite the 'straight back and bend the knees' mantra.
What about the hidden lifts, bends and twists that aren’t box-shaped?
Most of us don't think twice when lifting or moving everyday objects in and around our work places. What about the box files, the laptop and several cups of coffee, or reaching to the top shelf?
When we are safely back home, out of a specific Health and Safety environment, we automatically perform hidden lifts and movements without thinking about it. We lift or move the shopping bags, a pile of washing, a tray of food, a piece of furniture, the toy box or even the children! Then there are those garden chores that involve bending and lifting. It isn’t just lifting a heavy box we need to think about with regard to possible back injuries.
At BackCare we are producing two information packs to highlight some of the dangers and give advice on how to avoid back injuries in the two main areas of day-to-day living.
