Hydrotherapy sessions at the Astley Ainsley Hospital in Edinburgh on Tuesdays

The hydrotherapy pool will be CLOSED for its annual winter overhaul the week beginning 20th December.
It will also be CLOSED in the weeks beginning 27th December and 3rd January.
The pool REOPENS the week beginning  10th January (all being well!).

Lothian Branch have access to the Hydrotherapy pool at the Astley Ainsley Hospital in Edinburgh where we organise twice weekly sessions, on Tuesdays from 5.00pm – 7.30pm and on Thursdays from 5.00pm – 6.00pm.

We employ a Lifeguard at all sessions and also a fully qualified Physiotherapist who attends for an hour on Tuesdays and for an hour monthly on Thursdays. Our physiotherapist has extensive experience in pain management, and works in the water with those needing advice on appropriate exercises for their particular condition. Sessions are limited to half an hour because the pool can accommodate only eight people at a time, and also because this is the recommended optimum time to spend in the warm heavily chlorinated water.

Access to the pool is safe and easy, with a grab rail and shallow steps. There are separate changing rooms for men and women, and also showers which must be used both before and after using the pool.

Parking is available beside the Physiotherapy Department, but access by bus involves a ten minute walk.

The charge for using this facility is £17 monthly payable by cheque or Standing Order. This is to cover the cost of employing the Lifeguard and Physiotherapist and the rental of the pool.

After an initial trial it is necessary to become a BackCare member to use this facility.
Details of rates including, some concessions, are available from the branch
